The Finance team, led by the Chief Financial Officer exists to support the strategic and financial aims of the Institute through the regular planning, controlling and reporting of the financial operations including the Garvan Research Foundation (GRF) and Australian Bioresources (ABR).

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Procurement Manager is responsible for establishing, leading, and continuously developing the organisation's procurement function. This role encompasses the strategic development and oversight of all procurement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant sourcing of goods and services.

Salary: Up to $170,000 + 12% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: Permanent full-time

WHAT YOU WILL DO

This position will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement function, including strategy and policy aligned with Garvan’s strategic initiatives

  • Implement best practices in procurement processes to drive efficiency, transparency, and value for money.

  • Review and improve procurement systems, including Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and Catalogues, to streamline operations

  • Management of the entire tender process from initiation to contract award, including developing scope of works, drafting RFQs/RFPs, evaluating submissions, and leading negotiations.

  • Proactively manage new supplier contracts and contract renewals, variations, and disputes in collaboration with Garvan’s legal team

  • Build and manage vendor relationships and negotiate bulk purchasing terms

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and funding requirements

  • Report on procurement performance and savings

  • Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks, including supply chain disruptions, quality issues, and ethical or compliance breaches.

  • All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s workplace polices (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan’s number one priority.

ABOUT YOU

  • A degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement, with a significant focus on establishing and developing procurement functions.

  • Expertise in end-to-end tender management, including complex, high-value tenders.

  • A proven track record of developing, implementing, and optimising procurement processes and policies.

  • Strong experience in contract negotiation and supplier relationship management.

  • Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
